IMHO, long term investment is the best for keeping value and make some money of a really much higher profit, than you can ever make in some bank or in some funds. It is safe to invest in BTC or LTC, ETH, etc.

But, also, if you don want to wait for money, you can try with a small amount of money and try to buy some sh_tcoin or altcoin, when its down and sell when its up
