Security is a personal thing like it is with cash. You don't ask what can be done to a dollar bill to make it more secure in your wallet. Just don't carry very many in your wallet at once in case you lose it.

Oh, I don't think most of these scams happened because of failure to use escrow. The people that were scammed sent their coin to a service and the service didn't secure it or failed to properly secure their wallet. Here's a method for securing your wallet if you need one.
