I think idiots never decide to invest in bitcoin they are people who want to learn smart in managing the investment. And vice versa, whatever clever you are, if still can be provoked by spreader FUD, then he is the real idiot. 
I don't think that it is foolish thinking but it is a good way since you are preparing for your future and can make it for a living, it is not fool it should be the wise thing to do for now, I would invest and hold too not only for myself but for the future of my family.
