Back to topic, am I on top of the news? Wasn't able to keep up the last ~2 months.

1) Ongoing dev. of crypto split the community and developers of Sumo into RYO and SUMO ending in 2 chains with backport to cryptonight asic and heavy.
(Pre-mine issue, Miner community vs a hand full of Asic Miners, bullshit from all sides, facts are like 0.1% of the posts etc. .. happens so many times don't bother correcting me in any way.)

2) Ryo needs some weeks to straight the code and soften the chain-split ripples.
So its better to wait with code checks and only test the deamon on an useless PC that can be trashed worst case and some nice mining profits. And Replay protection thanks a lot

3) Whats that with the attack gibberish?
I only saw what looked like the usual hit and run specialist.
Just standard difficulty rising to limit the miner theft as far as math possible.
  A little high, but HW is enough around for that, like US or Africans and Weapons.
Reads like the diff. calculation code is still the same as changed in early sumo months and there is thinking about an update?
