You have to actually have 16 physical threads, and not hyperthreads I believe.

No you don't.
Typing setgenerate true 8 will work for a 4 core machine with hyperthreading.
So setgenerate true 16 should work for an 8 core system.

but obviously, just type setgenerate true -1 to use all available cores.
