PoW, being an objective consensus paradigm, as a whole,  should not be blamed here, you are just criticizing Nakamoto's bitcoin version of PoW that is essentially an implementation of the idea that happened to be invented by Nakamoto himself.  It is true although other PoW based coins have naively copied his implementation, with little or zero improvement..
