yes, it's very eaasy to send eth to a text address now, but only certain services use it such as myetherwallet, mycrypto, metamask and the cypher wallet for iOS.

when you type in the text address to send it to on myetherwallet it will resolve the address so that you can see it, otherwise, you don't need to know it.

it's an excellent idea and i think that in future a lot of people and businesses will want to have their very own .eth address.
