For me, I don't think that Ethereum can beat Bitcoin as the Number One in the crypto market, it's because Bitcoin is getting more and more bigger each day because there are more investors coming every time and Ethereum still has a lot to improve in their blockchain and their security features.
IMO ethereum got itself into a very risky and potentially devastating position. We are all used to discuss how people invest into altcoins or how they trade, but in case of the old cryptos miners are crucial. Now, ethereum has already overcome one hard fork on its way to become not mineable and get generated by the proof of stake algorithm instead of proof of work. Mining eth became more difficult for miners, so that they slowly abandon doing it. As the market suddenly went down, miners can do their job now only hoping for great future which doesn't look real enough. Perhaps if they practically stop mining that would be okay, but it still sounds bad to me.
