I think it all just comes down to the definition of "centralization".  I personally don't care about it in terms of corporate power, but the network itself.

But, point taken on the price of a rig vs an ASIC.  But, an ASIC going for $900 isn't going to be very profitable (if at all) vs the latest and greatest at $10K.  It would have to be one serious burger flipper to afford it.
