Judging by the fact that it took ERC20 two years to get finalised, I think the community is very likely to adopt the NFT standard and try to use it for projects and solutions. That is also the reason that we are building conventions for certain niches like identity, academic credentials, etc.

There are definitely other interesting standards like ERC998 for composables for instance. Generally, adoption is critical for any new standard - if people are not using it then it's not a standard.
