Thats why there is the fork happening.
The fork pretty much means that the devs also agree.
As much as they would love to put the fork out right now, it needs testing.
I cant disagree that this might have been predicted sooner with the light algo.
Mistakes were made. Many other similarly affected coins dont even care to try and fix it.
I can only say, we will see what happens
