Almost all blocks on early-days have very small size, so no wonder the sync process looks very fast.
Besides AFAIK upcoming Bitcoin Core 0.17 will optimize sync process even further.
Hi, I started a full node 20 minutes ago. I forwarded port 8333 tcp and the download is very fast. After 20 minutes I was at block 135100
I download around 300 blocks per second is this normal with a 400Mb/s Down and 40Mbs Up connection ?
That's not surprising considering your fast internet bandwidth unless, your PC got some bottlenecks like
Low Ram and
Slow Disk I/O which can potentially slow it down by half to quarter.
If you're using a SSD, you might wanna move the
data.dir to a Hard Disk since it looks like a waste of space for a
premium storage.
Fortunately, customer SSD isn't categorized as premium storage since NAND/SSD price keep decreasing and you could even get 500GB Customer SSD for 100 Euro. If the user really care about performance, using SSD for full-nodes isn't bad idea.
