There are lots of scams going on these days and only those who are smart will be able to figure when they are about to fall for those traps. It does not only happen in airdrops, it happens almost everywhere.
There are even fake wallets out there and once your money gets into it, forget about it cause there is no way youre going to get it out. I can remember when such thing happened last year, a fake wallet was used to confuse people and everyone turned to accuse the main organization.
