There are multiple mining techniques in use; Timicoin uses a technique referred to as Proof of Work. This technique requires a feasible amount of effort in order to prevent malicious uses of computing power such as launching denial of service attacks. In proof of work, miners receive new transaction blocks from the network, and generate hash codes.
