I wonder, why you dont see "Checking fans!" in your kernel log. Are fans connected? If they are not, connect them. Also, it wont hash until it detects both fans spins at least at 4200rpm (you can fake that with 555timer).
You can disable the fan check by editing and remaking bmminer, which somename must have done. With the default code, even if you disconnect both fans you will still see the "Checking fans!" message in the logs.
