Taking one spammer's history gives a sh*tload of new spam phrases. I don't mind the help with some lists, since there's so many of them.
The spambots just take short phrases, and combine them into a sentence, like this:
Searching for each phrase gives different spammers recycling the same text.

I wouldn't mind having my own nuke button, but doing this all day would quickly become boring. Unless the spammers give up, but that would take a lot of dedication banning them for a very long time.

It's 2 lines of scripting: the first downloads patrol, the second creates lists based on a word phrase. But all together it does add up.
Manually checking all post histories before banning them is probably more work.

I don't think petitions matter.
