I'm also thinking of a way to hire/rent out aliases, basically the way a domain now must be renewed every year. However, that constantly comes up against a huge trust wall where I can imagine someone would be wary of putting his redirect in my care. Can someone comment on that idea? Maybe it's just total crap. 
If you hold many GOOD aliases then you could create such a service. People have to pay NXT to decide the URI of a few of those Aliases for a month.
Good idea.I'd think I own a fair share of both good and useful ones. Of course there are the usual vanity aliases, too, with which I will probably do nice things like contests to create some buzz in the community. No need to cash in on those, but fun to make someone happy with.
And there are probably some totally useless ones, too. Time will tell.
