Chrome is going to cut off support to ALL extensions, not only for Ledger's wallet extensions, so this is in no way ledger's fault; just for your information.
But yea, 64bit is required, so re-install your operating system if you have to. If your hardware can't support 64bit though, unfortunately you have to either buy new computer hardware, or wait for the mobile version of ledger live.
Just a FYI: even when Chrome stops supporting every Chrome app, you can keep using the old Ledger apps (while they are compatible with the hardware) by running them through
