Yeah basically blockchain is simply a secured shared ledgerd, it could be used as a tool to help protect the environment but in order to do so a political will and strategies would be necessary. I am highly skeptical about the tokens like the one promoted by the OP, I don't think they will work. But as another poster has pointed out, planning and tracking the use of natural resources could maybe made much easier thanks to blockchain.
