I wouldn't be super concerned. Even tho Poloniex was bought out, crypto exchanges are seeing increasing pressure from governments and other forces to stay honest. There's a pretty big portion of CHI supply reserved for HUC airdrop, and I don't expect that portion of holders to just be discarded.
Right but they could simply keep CHI tokens for themselves or even worse, dump them OTC if it turns out to be a financially profitable move for them... At the time I wasn't knowledgeable enough to setup my own wallet (I wasn't even aware of how important that was) so I trusted Poloniex but I've come to learn never to trust an exchange with your tokens / keys (or any other third party for that matter ;-))...
Though lesson if they do back down
