Well, the name pretty much tells it already.
Proof of Work relies on work to be done in order to secure the network (an attacker needs lots of work to attack the network).
Proof of Stake relies on money/value to be staked in order to secure the network (an attacker needs to stake a lot of money/value to attack the network).
