Hoping I'm not repeating anyone's suggestion here, went through a few pages, but being honest I didn't read the full thread. How about a sniffer dog, with the colour changing as the number of reports rises? Not entirely sold on the colours, but could change them to anything.

300 reports 1000 reports 5000 reportsI thought those were fish (like Magikarp from Pokemon lol) when I first saw the icons before I read that they were sniffer dogs. Icons that are designed to be so small need to be extremely easy to recognize. Unfortunately, yours are not, mate.
