The worst thing about giving money to beggars is that you don't know if they are telling the truth. In many places beggars are actually quite rich. They realize that they can make more money just sitting on the street than at a regular job, so they choose to do that. Some of them will even make up fake illnesses or stories. They may say that they need money to buy bus tickets home. Then you can see them in the same place asking for money for a bus ticket home the next day. They don't actually want to leave. Of course, sometimes people really need help. I usually only give money to people who are providing a service that makes the city better. I like to give money to musicians, for example. If somebody says they need money for food, I sometimes buy them food. I don't like to give them money because they may not actually spend it on food.
