When I started mining a year ago I started with Slush.  I always liked Slush's pool but, the continuous problems finally pushed me to switch last Fall.  The block problems, i.e., missing blocks, missing or low rewards, etc, was frustrating enough and was consuming far too much of my time double checking things but, the biggest issue for me was the complete lack of response from Slush in his own Pool's forum thread.  Many have speculated that his Trezor project has interfered with his management of the pool - I don't know.  However, I do know that I value pool OP interaction with and support for their miners.  I can deal with pool problems which, like any service, are going to happen but, it gets tough to tolerate a lack of response from the only person that can provide an answer.

IMHO, the two best pool OPs are you Eleuthria and DrHaribo at Bitminter.  The two of you are consistently engaged in your pool forums in every way and I have never felt "left out in the dark" when there is a pool issue.  As such, BTCG and Bitminter are the only two pools I use any more.
