The problem is, some investment companies are buying & selling coins in a portfolio on behalf of investors and they balance the portfolio according to, say the 10 coins with the highest market capitalization for instance. If this change dramatically, then Bitcoin might drop in market capitalization and when the balancing of the portfolio are done, then these investors will end up with less bitcoins. 

Price is important, depending on how you invest in Bitcoin and how your portfolio management is done.
