What you are proposing sounds very similar to pump and dump tactics, in which a group of people begin to buy a coins cheap and then they begin to promote their knowledge to a group of people and then they reveal the coin everyone needs to buy and then they sell for a profit, not only this practice is immoral, it is illegal as well, do not do it or face the consequences.Is this a good strategy?

It doesnt sound like pump and dump tactics because it is pump and dump activity itself.
Its just the artificial way of manipulating the crypto currencies and to be frank whales use this technique on wide range of altcoins and bitcoin itself to manipulate and profit themselves with its margins.
Also social media publicity wouldn't work because thats not the thing like airdrops, ICO projects or products or service which people will try out immediately. So may be difficult to see that option working out.
