I think ETH and BTC is the most advanced and forward looking . I'm trying to figure some good coins at the market though but I'm eyeing on Monaco, XRP, and Credits as they seem to have good quality and has a potential to be one of the most progressive coins in the industry. But i always choice ETH and BTC 
You can always make bitcoin and ETH as your favorites because they are in the top 2 and they have great volume. For me I have a lot of coins in different wallets including ETH and BTC of course, but for now my favorite is PundiX.
