As a merchant, I would give each client a different address. If they all use the same address, you can't keep track of who's paying you.
It's also a way of showing appreciation for the project since the raised funds go towards the community fund. Like a donation but with the added benefit of a vanity address.
You make valid points, if you want to donate to the project, it's a good way to do so.
I was more thinking about using this for publicity: it would be very nice to be able to say: "In Byteball, you don't need to remember my long address, just remember: @PayLoyceV.
For that to happen, it should have a price that many people are willing to pay.
