There are definitely exchanges with a lower fee (e.g. kraken with just a few cents in ) but for occasional purchases this is quite ok.

IMO using an exchange is safer (and sometimes also cheaper) than using localbitcoins.
I've been using LocalBitcoin since 2013 and never had an issue. I've always been looking for other alternatives but the fees have always made it not worthwhile.

Quick comparison. £100 buys 0.0182 @ CEX.IO with Mastercard or Visa and 0.0192 at LocalBitcoin with Faster Payment.
