$5k per one bitcoin actually is hard to happen, this is the amount miner must pay to mine one bitcoin so I think the whales would not let it happen to save their money. Because of this reason, the price of bitcoin now would be the lowest price can touch.
How was the mining profitable when BTC price was $1k beginning of last year ? The mining difficulty was lower, simple as that.
So, the BTC price can drop to even $1k and miners will not drop if the difficulty level drops as well.
I am not saying it will happen but theoretically it can happen.
the mining difficulty has increased dramitically since bitcoin was at 1000 usd. Especially in 2018 many miners went out of business as a direct results, espially miners that offered part of their mining share in form of contrcts. These do no longer add any profit, at least to a large extent.
