The possibility for that happening is there, but I personally don't see that happening soon. I see bitcoin as a tool that will be used to create the way for other currency. Bitcoin is getting slower and transaction fee are getting expensive. If it really wanna have a shot at that it need major improvement in those areas I just mentioned.
