Yup. The trick is the chip on the board is a bit difficult to solder even with a hot air rework unit like my aoyue 968. Takes time. There is a FQDN type chip with little legs that might fit; that would be way way way easier to put on the board I think.
Someday I'll try that when I do another one. But replacing that chip alone fixed my unit which came from the UK and had the same screwup yours appears to.
