It should be quite easy to get that 1 merit for any Jr.Member on this forum, but when I check some of them who ask others to look their post history it is quite clear how they have one big 0 in received merits. Most of them post in forum boards which are too hard to read because of too many spam, and merit sources do not even visits that parts of the forum.

So in order to get merits that users first need to understand that this forum is have more boards then Bitcoin Discussion or Alternate cryptocurrencies, and also to improve their writing skills. Give something to forum and you will get something back, trust, respect or merits.

In my opinion 1 merit is to low request to become Jr.Member, most of them will find way to get that 1 merit and after that we will have same spam behavior as before. What would really help to this forum is disabling signature until user is reach Member rank, personally I do not see it as a drastic measure but only one that would help to prevent garbage-posting.
Dear Lucius largely agree with you but I want to add that beginners are difficult to obtain merit and there are several reasons :

-On the forum there is a huge number of topics and is very difficult to make a truly unique post
-Among the many garbage topics, it is difficult for beginners to choose the right one-where his message will be noticed and appreciated by merit
-On the forum there are plenty of offers for sale of merit and rank. With this unfortunately no one fights and so beginners choose an easier way.

The introduction of new rules will allow you to deal with garbage accounts and bots in a short time. Only those who were engaged in spam-will find a way to get merit, and will suffer just innocent users.

Already now there is activity in groups on purchase merit and rank, and that means that "business" will flourish for individual personalities.

Many users with a red trust distribute merit "newbie"

Need to develop clear and transparent rules so as not to punish all in a row beginners. Yes, many have not received merit, but that does not mean that they are spammers.

Many social networks also struggle with spam and bots on their platform, but they do not block all users in a row, and if they blocked them by mistake, then communication with the support service solved this problem.

for example, it was possible to limit the registration of new users and track spammers among existing ones

These are just my thoughts and I, like many users who downgraded the rank HONESTLY want to get your first merit.
