I'm right there with you on mining with under 1 MH/s. I've got 14 Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-x's on order though so that should change soon. I just wish I could get an actual ship date for the cards.

it's hard to get credit here so unless I can save up enough for those cards I'm stuck with my 5870 stuck onto a motherboard that can't even handle it's full power lol.at least I think I can change the motherboard soon though so I can finally use it's full 400 khash lol
The hardest part in the US is to actually get the video cards. They are sold out everywhere and when you can find them they are ridiculously overpriced because the demand is so high.
I definitely have put a considerable amount of money into my hobby (mining) but I'm committed to it for two years no matter what happens. It looks like it is going to be an interesting adventure. It looks like many miners simply dump their coins constantly to pay for whatever hardware they have purchased + electricity. I'm going to take the opposite approach. I'm going to horde a variety of coins and see if one of them really makes it huge.
I have no idea what your financial situation is but it sounds like you could use a hardware upgrade. Maybe set some money aside and make a rig dedicated to mining and see what happens.
