He is selling his intellectual property, just like you bought Bitmain's miner... it doesn't matter how easy it was for them to build such a machine, you couldnt have done it yourself. You are getting an increase in profits. And another note to how "easy" it was to alter the frequency, it doesn't matter because YOU weren't able to do it and hindsight is always 20/20.
