but if compared with bitcoin, ETH will never overtake bitcoin in the first place in the crypto world, and that is impossible for ETH to offset BTC popularity.

Bitcoin popularity means that big whales will invest only into Bitcoin, they will not invest into some alternatives.
So when ETFs will be started - Bitcoin will be only the one with real value.
