Just don't use centralised chat apps, then this isn't possible.
Tox is available for all platforms, and is fully p2p. No excuse not to use it IMO

true but for the majority of the users out there, they may not be familiar with this and thus making the transition can be challenging.
Tox is user-friendly and the UI isn't that different from most messaging/chatting apps, expect few complicated features.
The real problem is there are very few people who use Tox/other P2P apps which is turn off for most people.
