"The giving" basically means getting killed by purgers during the Purge night. They believe that they are healing the world by exchanging their life to allow purgers to unleash their beasts within. When it was Penelope's time to do the giving, she was captured by the Nuns and was sold to the Carnival of Flesh in exchange of money. Carnival of Flesh is basically a carnival where they bid people and the highest bidder gets to do whatever they want to do with the person (and ultimately killing them). Bitcoin was mentioned in one of the scenes. It said "Bygone accepts cash, check, and Bitcoin." around 8:20.
