That IS a good point, we are actually having someone design graphics work now for the usd-e.com site to get rid of the overwhelming U.S.-based theme... [edit] recruiting graphics companies as we speak to do this...
The coin being associated with the USA is perfectly fine, as long as, like you said, it's not overwhelming to the point of alienating people from other countries. I think national maps and US-imagery cross that line (I'm not American BTW).
