The 20 teams registered to play in the 2015 Série A season recorded their annual amount of
turnover: all clubs summed 3.6 billion Brazilian Reais, equivalent to $1.34 billion US Dollars.
Despite the financial macroeconomic crisis that Brazil was/is facing, the top teams were able
to increase their incomes by 26% in comparison with the 2014 season. (Época, 2016)
This means that Brazilian football was able to increase its nancials on a superior rate, in
comparison to the monetary devaluation. This performance, against the current situation in
Brazil demonstrates the potential of football in this country. The explanation for this growth is
based on three factors: players, TV rights and the Fans. The international transfers, less
susceptible to the internal financial crisis, had an increase of 71% to income, in comparison
to the 2014 figures. The TV rights, negotiated with Rede Globo represented an increase of
30%. The combination between memberships and match-days sales were responsible for an
increase of 24% in the same period. Another important (slow burning) factor is the
generation of marketing and commercial incomes, increasing by 9% in comparison with
2014.
