One of the reasons that Ravencoin is getting popular is because they are using X16R.  As the category leader for a new algorithm they attract a lot of attention from GPU miners.

I know people hate GPU miners because they think they dump all their coins on the market... In my opinion they help new coins because they bring a lot of attention and free marketing to a project.  GPU miners are making videos and telling their friends about Ravencoin. This multiplies as the new people tell their friends, link the project on their blog posts, podcasts, etc.

Just my opinion of course... and I'm biased because I have a lot of GPUs.
