Technically not entirely correct, there was an attack based on an exploit in Bitcoin which has been published a month ago and never fixed in CHC until someone tried to use it.

The chain has been recovered to normal behavior, good thing for the whole blockchain community is that it brought another potential bug in the Bitcoin code to light which I am going to try to confirm and report this weekend.
