It won't be long ETH won't just be another platform that tried. I think ETH will survive though and they do have a lot pf project under them. I've read the news about the new ETH 2.0 which will be released soon. I think they are resolving scalability and the number of transactions to be increased per seconds. There is EOS that is a very threat to them actually and it already started its web of dapps. EOS is one of the very promising platform.
