Meh.

I don't think anything like this makes sense when you're thinking about how easy it easy to use this now. If we're going to have to wait years for the LN to actually be bug-free and coming to fruition then it's not going to be worth the time wasted. Bikes are already here, people use their credit cards (or cash) at kiosks to get the bikes. Why do we need Bitcoin for this sort of thing?

Makes no sense to me, and this isn't going to increase adoption. We've just introduced an alternative that isn't going to get used.

I ask the opposite, why do we need to rely so heavily on 3 parts for such a simple operation?

Cryptocurrencies could facilitate the use of products where humans interact only with machines. As is the case with these bikes, as is the case with snack machines. It could be the case of self service kiosks that are already widely used at McDonalds.

Credit cards are not perfect. In certain situations they are insecure, they require a lot of information. And they are still not universal, since many people do not have a bank account.
