The Lightning Network developer from Berlin Matthias Steinig has created the system allowing to bring into work Electric bicycles by means of technology of micropayments Lightning Network.

The solution is found at the proof-of-concept stage, however, is already completely functional, including payment service provider. Potentially it can be useful to the companies which are engaged in a hire of city electronics.

As it said in the description of the project on GitHub, on the special display it is possible to choose the desired time of a trip, to scan a QR code and to make payment through a mobile application. After successful payment, the bicycle is activated and is available to a trip.

The payment device at the same time works from the bicycle battery. Three various options of the duration of a trip are at the moment available, and the cost of one minute of driving is established at a rate of 250 Satoshi.

Cost it about $1 per hour. This is not expensive. Good price for electric bike trip.
Where can read more info about this project?

I like the fact that they are using cheap Raspberry Pi hardware for this.  Wink  The name, “Lightning Bike” was also a smart marketing move.  Grin

Can Visa or Mastercard or PayPal offer the same service at the same price for micro transactions like this?
