Build hype to pump the price, then release news that is lackluster. Avoid that and we don't have a problem. Personally, I think countdowns are stupid as they set up for the expectation of a pump. Not true organic price action.
Everything in crypto pumps and dumps, even XRP, Stellar etc. but that doesn't mean they are shitcoins, or have scam teams or anything. Nothing goes organic up or organic down forever, whales will always create fluctuations.
Why do you think Coinbase have announced 5 coins in july? To create Hype.
Have they accumulated in advance to dump them later on? Most definitely yes.
Did 0x, BAT etc. pumped anyway? Yes they went to moon.
Does that mean Coinbase as a bad / scam exchange? Yes (you and me), No (Majority of people)
Crypto space will never change, so better get used to it.
