Is it correct to assume the source of truth for the difficulty rate, global hash rate etc is on the block explorer and anything reported by a mining pool is to be taken as an approximation instead? (asking because there is consistent difference between the explorer and the mining pool values)
It's quite simple actually. What you see in your miner is the difficulty of the block you're looking for, and in explorer (and wallet console) you see the difficulty of the last block found. If block time were faster you wouldn't probably even notice this.
