1-  invented bitcoin in response to 2008 financial crisis as an alternative monetary system.

2- was very cautious up to a paranoid level about surveillance and state control, hence used every possible measure from the first beginning to remain anonymous.

3- was a believer in resisting state control as being both desirable and possible.
