The purpose of the Bible is to provide salvation for people. The O.T. Messiah is the N.T. Christ. Jesus fulfilled it.
The purpose of the Bible is NOT to help modern science to have better scientific understandings.
Go to Kansas. Step outside on a clear night, and with the unaided eye, look at the sky, horizon to horizon. It looks like a big dome. This is what the unscientific people of the past saw... a big dome. So, to provide them with the way to salvation, God gave them words that fit where they live... a non-science world with non-science words.
Look at the beginning of Ezekiel in the O.T. Read about Ezekiel's spaceship. Ezekiel did a pretty good job of describing the spaceship. Modern science has expanded our understanding of it in ways that Ezekiel never would understand. But even we with all our science don't know much about it.
In other words, just because those ancient peoples saw a FE, this doesn't mean that the earth is essentially flat. Modern science has proven that the earth is a GE in ways that fit the FE primitive pictures of the past, while showing that the earth is really a GE.
