At 4Ghash/s I gladly joined a pool (bitcoins.lc) and get regular income.
IMHO until you reach a critical hashrate, solo mining is kinda a ballsy bet. 10 Ghash/s might reach this threshold...
Test both ways for few days, you'll see !
